IBM PowerPC 405EP: the new low-cost communications processor
IBM Unveils New PowerPC PowerPC Processor for Embedded Applications Targeted at Wireless LAN Access Points, DSL Routers, Cable Modems and Other Network Devices.
The PowerPC 405EP processor is based on the IBM PowerPC 405 core and is available in versions with a clock frequency of 133, 200 and 266 MHz, while the power consumption of the 200 MHz version is 1 W. One of the integrated elements of the IBM PowerPC 405EP chip is a dual-port 10/100 Ethernet interface, which will allow developers of wireless access points of 802.11a / b achieve cost savings in product development.
The new chip also has an integrated PCI interface, SDRAM memory controller, 64-bit CoreConnect bus, support for various peripherals.
PowerPC 405EP processor manufactured at IBM manufacturing facility using SA-27e 0.18 micron copper technology.
