Nanya moves to 0.14-micron, increases OEM contract volume up to 70%

As OEMs prepare for the Christmas sales season, Taiwanese Nanya reports an increase in the number of OEM contracts awarded in September to 70% of its total production.

Initially, in August, Nanya planned to increase the volume of OEM contracts from 62% to 75%, but then reduced the bar to 70%, which it reached. The main customers of Nanya are Dell, Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Toshiba.

In addition, Nanya announces a complete refurbishment of its Fab 2 plant with a 0.14-micron process. According to the company, the time delay was due to the protracted verification of the manufacturing process by OEM customers.

It is believed that Nanya went to 0.14-micron technology due to the fact that the percentage of chip yield exceeded those for the 0.175-micron process technology. 50% of the production capacity of the company’s Fab 1 plant is also switched to 0.14-micron process, and the remaining production lines are planned to be switched to 0.14-micron standards in the first quarter of next year.
