IDF: Intel Launches New Initiative to Spur Development of Wireless Multimedia Devices

At the Intel Developers’ Forum (IDF), which opened today in San Jose, Intel again spoke about its vision of the future of personal computers and how best to integrate them into wireless networks. The company is going to launch the Extended Wireless PC Initiative, which should contribute to this.

As part of its initiative, Intel plans to release a reference design and a set of software to facilitate product-to-market starting in the second half of next year. And today, reference designs of digital media adapter products based on the XScale microprocessor were demonstrated.

What kind of beast is this, digital media adapter? With this device, users will be able to bring together PCs, TVs and audio systems to play audio / video files from the PC.

Most likely these adapters will use the IEEE 802 wireless standard.eleven. By the way, today Intel announced the start of joint development with Sonic Wave of adapter cards operating simultaneously in IEEE 802.11 and bluetooth.
