Spore Patch 5.1
Overclocking potential of cards based on ATI Radeon 9700 Pro chips, part 2

Not so long ago we wrote that the height of the die in the RADEON 9700 Pro (R300) is very often lower than the protective frame surrounding the chip, as a result of which the heatsink of the cooler does not fit tightly to the die,
leaning on the protective frame (see. our news About the overclocking potential of cards based on ATI Radeon 9700 Pro chips …).

As you know, ATI recommends using a thermal spacer between the die and the heatsink, so the 0.5mm gap does not particularly affect the operation of the chip in normal mode. However, overclocking possibilities are still limited. Thanks to the idea submitted by Timofey Cheblokov, this frame was removed. True, I had to sharpen the screwdriver a lot, since even a sharp knife blade could not be inserted into the extremely narrow gap.

Now you can try to overclock the RADEON 9700 Pro more, which we will try to describe in the next release of 3Digest.
