STMicroelectronics launches 0.13-micron flash memory chips into production
Yesterday we wrote that Toshiba and Sandisk have already presented flash memory chips manufactured using 90nm technology, STMicroelectronics today announced the release of flash memory chips manufactured according to 0.13-micron process technology.
Unlike 90nm chips of its competitors, STMicroelectronics is going to launch new chips into mass production by the end of this year. The new flash memory chips are designed for wireless terminals, cell phones, etc.
Chips manufactured in 0.13-micron are designed for a 1.8 V supply voltage, but it is planned that some of the chips will be able to operate at 3 V. There is, however, one small drawback – the conductors in the chips are aluminum, which is likely to adversely affect the power consumption of the microcircuits.
