VTF 2021: Eden Platform Processors and Chipsets. Looking forward to Neemiah
This week’s VTF 2021 technology conference, hosted by VIA Technologies, brought news about the future of the Eden processor platform, as well as information about the updated roadmap of the VIA C3 processors.
The ESP series processors used in the Eden platform are expected to reach clock speeds of 1 GHz and higher as early as next year (platforms with ESP4000, ESP5000 and ESP6000 chips, respectively, with clock frequencies of 400 MHz, 533 MHz) are currently on the market. and 667 MHz). ESP8000 and ESP10K chips are currently being prepared for release, with clock speeds of 800 MHz and 1 GHz, respectively. The ESP8000 chip is expected to be based on the Nehemiah core – the next generation of VIA processor chips after C3. For the sake of fairness, it should be noted that the C3 processor with a clock frequency of 1 GHz on the Ezra-T core, which was formally presented in August, but did not enter the series, finally dropped out of the company’s processor roadmap. Now the C3 chip line ends with a 933MHz processor.

Currently, the Eden platform is equipped with PLE133, Mobile Twister-T, Twister-T DDR, CLE266, VT694X or Pro266T north bridges in combination with VT686B, VT8231 or VT8235 south bridges. VIA plans to release a new north bridge CLE ++, with an integrated graphics core CastleRock II (the CLE266 chipset uses the CastleRock version), in combination with a new south bridge VT8237.
