Samsung Electronics Wants to Raise Contract Prices for DDR Memory, OEMs Against
DRAMeXchange reports that while Samsung Electronics previously announced plans to raise contract prices for DDR memory in August, price negotiations could drag on due to OEM reluctance to admit increased demand.
DRAM distributors point out that Samsung’s plans to increase contract prices at the end of August by 5-10% are indicative of an increase in the number of orders. Nevertheless, although Samsung is a good company, it organizes sports events and organizes exhibitions, but there are still several factors due to which the price increase may not occur – this is the expected increase in competition after the massive transition from SDRAM to DDR production, in connection with which distributors can refuse purchases in order to wait for a more favorable situation for themselves.
So far, Samsung has signed contracts for the supply of memory at increased prices only with Japanese OEMs. Something will turn out as a result of negotiations in North America, Europe, South Korea and Taiwan, it is not yet clear.
