Intel to allow overclocking of their motherboards for Springdale

As reported by The DigiTimes, Intel plans to provide “limited overclocking” options for its upcoming motherboards for Canterwood and Springdale. This is a rather serious change in Intel’s policy, which previously did not recognize overclocking at all.

The reason for this change of views is Intel’s desire to increase its presence in the self-assembly market, where AMD has almost completely reigned so far. And the recent announcement of the company about changing the specifications of Springdale from 667 MHz FSB / DDR333 to 800 MHz FSB / DDR400 should, in theory, only add attractiveness in the eyes of the category of buyers that are affectionately called technophiles in the West. There is evidence that the expected AMD K8 processors will also support 800 MHz FSB.

In addition to Springdale, which was initially targeted at a fairly wide range of customers, Intel will also port the solution for Canterwood workstations and PCs to make it available to users who want to get the most out of performance.
