DDR400 Announcements in IDF Days
Today can be called the day of the mass appearance of press releases on the release of DDR400 PC3200 memory modules, as well as messages on the certification of such modules by Intel. In order not to leave anything “overboard” on this topic, as well as not to “produce” the same type of messages, I will give similar announcements in one summary news.
Infineon Technologies AG today announced a family of unbuffered 128MB, 256MB and 512MB DIMMs, based on 256MB DDR400 memory chips.
The modules are certified for compatibility with the specifications put forward by Intel for this type of memory, as well as with the requirements of the JEDEC PC3200 specifications 3.2 GBps. Chips for modules are produced on 200 mm and 300 mm lines of the company with a 0.14 micron technical process. Sample deliveries have already begun, wholesale sample prices range from $ 30 – $ 100, depending on the capacity of the modules. The company offers experimental batches of 256 Mbit DDR400 chips for $ 6 apiece.
Samsung Electronics today announced that Intel has successfully passed qualification tests of its chips and DDR400 memory modules for compatibility with the Springdale chipset.
Another Korean company, Hynix Semiconductor, announced today that its 256Mbit DDR400 chips are also Intel certified. The company has now started bulk shipments of 256 Mbit DDR400 chips and is shipping trial lots of 512 Mbit DDR400 chips.
On the websites of Micron and Elpida there are no special statements timed to coincide with IDF Spring 2021, however, it is known that the companies also intend to actively promote their DDR400 products.
