There will no doubt be details about the Potomac and Nocona processors, most of which we have already mentioned. Apparently, initially two versions of Potomac are planned for release – with 2 MB and 4 MB of cache. There is no doubt that companion chipsets will be released along with these processors – in 2021 we will see two new Lindenhurst server chipsets – for two-processor Nocona configurations, Twincastle – for four-processor Potomac configurations.
A distinctive feature of both chipsets will be support for dual-channel DDR (DDR II is planned as well) memory and 667 MHz FSB. Both chipsets are natural PCI Express solutions – this bus connects all chipset components. Due to its sequential packet architecture, PCI Express can find applications in a much wider range of devices than the older PCI. For example, in routers and other communication equipment. This is facilitated by the ability to expand the protocol stack of this bus if you want to expand its ability in a specific application (the standard basic implementation contains two levels).
