From next year DeskNote will be sold with replaceable LCD panels
After almost a year of existence on the market of unusual DeskNote devices, which marked the beginning of the trend of using “desktop” components in notebooks, a serious turn has been outlined in their fate: from next year ECS will start selling DeskNote without an LCD panel, which will be sold separately. ECS has responded to the fall in prices for TFT LCD panels in this way, the company says. By selling LCD panels separately, the company can certainly make more money from them. There is also a positive moment for buyers: when buying, you can choose a 15 “and even 17” panel.
Otherwise, DeskNote will remain the same: built entirely from desktop components and no battery as standard. In addition to allowing the company to control its inventory of LCD panels in its warehouse, ECS claims that this is another step towards a hybrid computer between notebooks and desktop PCs, with all the implications that come with it, one of which is upgradeability.
It is curious, by the way, that the best-selling models are currently the DeskNote based on the VIA C3 or Transmeta Crusoe.
