AOpen launches external CD-RW / DVD-ROM drives
AOpen Announces External Slim CD-RW / DVD-ROM Combo Drives Coming within a Month. These drives are intended for purchase by owners of notebook computers equipped with high-speed communication interfaces with peripheral devices.
The 24-speed drives, which will go on sale under the AOpen brand, will initially be equipped with an IEEE 1394 interface, followed by 1394 and USB 2.0. These models should appear on the market within the next six months. AOpen also says it intends to actively engage OEMs in this line of business.
Additionally, AOpen provides some thoughts on the state of the optical disc market. If, according to the company, in August the number of orders for CD-ROMs increased by about 20%, the number of orders for DVD-ROMs also slightly increased, then the demand for CD-RWs has slightly decreased and is unlikely to increase significantly until the end of September. By the end of the year, AOpen predicts growth in demand associated with traditional seasonal activity. So, in the third quarter of this year, the company expects a 20% increase in sales compared to the same period last year and an additional increase in sales by the New Year.
