VIA KT400A – at the beginning of 2021

Last week it became known that SiS, without waiting for the official verification of DDR400 memory by JEDEC, is now positioning its SiS648DX and SiS746DX chipsets only as DDR333 solutions, without guaranteeing their correct operation with DDR400. At the same time, VIA is gradually phasing out its P4X333 chipset and is replacing it with the new high-end position P4X400. Now both chipset manufacturers mark DDR400 support only as “overclocking functionality”, and all problems with DDR400 support, in fact, fall on the shoulders of motherboard manufacturers.

However, not all is lost. According to our authoritative industry sources, VIA Technologies has plans to release in early 2021 a new revision of Socket A of the KT400 chipset, with improved support for DDR400 memory. The expected name of the new chipset is KT400A.
