PowerPC G4 MPC7457 and MPC7447: new RISC processors from Motorola with SOI

Motorola Announces New Versions of its PowerPC G4 Processors for Integrated Applications. New chips – MPC7457 and MPC7447, will be used in medical, industrial, network and other equipment.

The MPC7457 and MPC7447 are low-power, 32-bit RISC processors up to 1.3 GHz, 0.13-micron copper and SOI. More detailed characteristics of the chips – see. table:

Both processors support full 128-bit version of Motorola AltiVec vector SIMD instructions. MPC7457 chips are available in 483-pin CBGA package, have 512KB L2 cache and support up to 2MB L3 cache. The MPC7447 chips are available in a 360-pin CBGA package and have the same specifications minus L3 cache support. Low-voltage versions of the MPC7457 and MPC7447 processors operate at clock speeds up to 1 GHz with a core supply voltage of 1.0 V.

Prototypes of PowerPC chips MPC7457 and MPC7447 are already available to select partners of the company, in sufficient quantities samples will appear in March, mass production of chips is planned for the fourth quarter.
