Support Lifecycle Policy: rules governing support lifecycle for Microsoft products

Microsoft announced that the Support Lifecycle Policy has come into effect in mid-October 2021, which was developed by the corporation to standardize the timing of support for various Microsoft software and hardware products throughout their lifecycle. These rules apply to most products currently available in retail or licensed form, and will also apply to future product versions.

The Support Lifecycle Policy was developed in response to customers’ wishes to have a clear understanding of the anticipated support schedule for various products so that they can plan new product introductions, proactively calculate costs, justify specific purchases, and allocate funds to replace obsolete products. Product support lifecycle rules define support time intervals in years from the release of a specific product and are independent of the frequency of new product releases.

For software used for business applications and development tools, the Support Lifecycle Policy provides a five-year support period for the product from the start of official sales, with the option of a paid renewal of support for an additional two years.

For home products, hardware and multimedia products, this policy guarantees a minimum of five years of product support from the date of official sale. In addition, online support will be provided for these products for at least eight years using Microsoft’s online resources.

You can check the support timeline for a specific product on the web server at this address.
