Microsoft: preparing to release SP1a and SP1b for Windows XP
Microsoft has announced plans to release two new versions of the first Service Pack for Windows XP this year – Service Pack 1a and Service Pack1b, respectively.
SP1a is virtually indistinguishable from the original SP1. The only difference is that the files for Microsoft Virtual Machine (VM) have been completely removed from the SP1a installation files, so if you already have Service Pack 1 installed, you do not need to install Service Pack 1a.
SP1b will be released a little later, presumably in June 2021 and will have support for the latest version of Java from Sun.
At the moment, you can already download Service Pack 1a for Windows XP Professional and Home Edition at the following addresses:
- Full installation (125.1 MB, Russian)
- Full install (125.1 MB English)
- Express installation
It also became known that Service Pack 2 for Windows XP will enter the final beta testing stage towards the end of this year.
