Unix vs. IBM: SCO accuses company of illegal use of code in Linux

The SCO Group, which bought the rights to Unix in 1995, has filed a lawsuit against IBM alleging trade secrets in the open source of its Linux operating systems. The essence of the SCO Group’s accusation is that, according to the company, IBM used part of the Unix code in Linux implementations that are distributed free of charge.

Analysts agree that while SCO’s lawsuit is against IBM, a brutal solution to this delicate issue could hurt all Linux lovers, much to the delight of Microsoft and Sun. However, SCO itself claims that it is not going to obstruct Linux enthusiasts (the company itself distributes its own version of Linux), but wants to punish the holders of Unix licenses who seek to integrate intellectual property into their projects at someone else’s expense.

IBM denies the accusations of SCO and believes that such suspicions are caused only by the company’s suspiciousness and have no real basis. Fear is the amount named in the lawsuit – $ 1 billion. Let’s see what all this will lead to ..
