Samsung: Mass Production of 1 Gbps NAND Flash Chips Begins

Samsung Semiconductor Announces Mass Production of 1Gbit K9F1GXXX0M Series NAND Flash Chips using 0.12μm process technology. At the same time, the size of one memory cell does not exceed 100 sq. nm.

New 1Gbit chips from Samsung are available in 48-pin TSOP1 packages, have a 32-bank organization, include a string decoder with support for fetching 1Kb blocks. In addition, the chip supports 2KB extended paging and 128KB block erase function. The company claims a 70% write speed increase over previous generations of NAND flash memory thanks to the long page write cache. The supply voltage of the new chips is 1.8 V, the access time is about 50 ns.
