Intel Sells Trillium
Intel agrees to sell its Trillium Digital Systems division to Continuous Computing. Although the terms of the deal were not disclosed, sources close to the company say the price Intel asked for was very low. According to the same source, who wished to remain anonymous, it seems that Intel is getting rid of divisions that are not related to the company’s core activities.
In August 2000, Intel acquired Trillium for $ 300 million. In 2021, the company sold Ziatech (PCB design) to Performance Technology and Shiva (remote access device) to Simple Access. In both cases, the price was a fraction of the price Intel purchased them for in 2000.
Therefore, as soon as Continuous Computing learned about a kind of Trillium sale, company representatives contacted Intel, wondering if the rest of the company was being sold, although until now Continuous Computing had never used the Trillium development stack.
As a result, Continuous Computing will get a fairly large chunk of Trillium: software development units for portable devices and protocol stacks H.323, Media Gateway Control Protocol, Signaling System 7, and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). As for Continuous Computing itself, the company develops Compact PCI and PICMG boards and subsystems for OEM contractors such as Alcatel, Ericsson, Cisco and Tellabs.
