MSI forges relationship with ATI?

On the web, overgrown with rumors and assumptions, the story is developing with information that appeared on Yahoo Finance from
analyst Eric Rothdeutsch from the marketing company Friedman Billings Ramsey that one of the largest Taiwanese manufacturers is Micro-Star Inc. (MSI), formerly known as NVIDIA’s exclusive graphics card partner, enters ATI GPU graphics maker camp.

According to the analyst, MSI intends to launch the production of graphics cards based on ATI Radeon 9500 series chips for a large German distributor, Medion, and not only for the spring season, but also, probably, for the autumn sales season. In the event of such a turn of events, the analyst does not exclude the possibility of reducing NVIDIA’s revenues by $ 30 million. In addition, MSI is no longer the exclusive supplier of graphics on chips from NVIDIA, and therefore Rotdeutsch does not exclude the possibility of the appearance of cards on chips from ATI made by MSI and for other customers.

Quoting an analyst from Friedman Billings Ramsey, Dow Jones Business News reports that such a turnaround could further slow the market launch of cards based on the GeForce FX family.

I think it would be premature to draw conclusions about MSI’s complete withdrawal from working with GPUs from NVIDIA, although, judging by the current situation on the market, most graphic card manufacturers usually deal exclusively with either ATI or NVIDIA. At the moment, I have not been able to find a single official comment on the situation from representatives of MSI, ATI or NVIDIA on the Web, it is quite possible that additional first-hand information will now appear only on Monday. The coming week will generally be very rich in announcements of new graphic solutions, because the CeBIT exhibition, to which all this will be timed, is already, as they say, just around the corner. In our news, we will try to closely follow the development of events that started last Friday. It is quite possible that all this will turn out to be empty noise, and the order from MSI is just a profitable outsourcing agreement for a more complete utilization of production capacities, without any “political” conclusions.
