Matsushita joins development of high-k dielectrics for 65nm processes

Matsushita Electric Industrial and IMEC, the European independent research center for microelectronics, announce the start of joint work on the creation of high dielectric constant (high-k) stacks for industrial processes with a cell size of less than 65 nm.

From an international technology roadmap for semiconductors (ITRS) perspective, high-k stacks represent a major challenge for future semiconductor technology. IMEC is currently pursuing two research programs, one on the use of advanced high-k dielectrics and metals in logic gates of 65nm devices, and the other on high-k stacks.

Matsushita has joined the already started research and, presumably, will be engaged in the application and testing of new technologies. In addition, IMEC is already working with Sematech and Hitachi.
