New low-cost Sony laptops
More than once on the pages of our site there have been messages that one or another manufacturer produces notebooks of a budget series, aimed specifically at university students. This is due to the fact that applicants from foreign universities and colleges have recently been increasingly required to have their own PC. Taking this into account, Sony has once again released new VAIO PCG-NVR23 and PCG-FXA63 laptops with a view to future students and their parents, but it is possible that in Russia interest in such devices may also turn out to be significant.
These notebooks are based on AMD Athlon XP 1800+ and Athlon XP 1600+ processors operating at 1.67 and 1.4 GHz. It is also promised that the VAIO NVR23 video system will be built on one of the latest nVidia chips (presumably, the GeForce 4). The organization of drives on removable media is also curious: the VAIO NVR23 has a multifunctional compartment for connecting a subwoofer, a touchscreen touch pad or a 3.5-inch floppy drive. But the CD-RW / DVD drive is not removable, but it’s so nice to have it. The laptop has a 15 ” LCD screen with 30GB hard disk space and 256MB RAM.
VAIO FXA63 will be a bit simpler, with a 14-inch screen, 256 MB of memory and 20 GB hard drive. There is also a 3.5-inch floppy drive and a CD-RW / DVD drive, but without the frills like a removable subwoofer, etc. P.
Both models have built-in support for i.LINK (IEEE1394), USB and (how could Sony have done without it) Memory Stick. Estimated cost of VAIO NVR23 – $ 1500, FXA63 – $ 1400.
