Hitachi to launch mass-produced water-cooled desktops and servers
I remember that in February last year we told that Hitachi made its debut in the Japanese market with Hitachi FLORA 270W series laptops equipped with a water cooling system and a 2.0 GHz Pentium 4-M processor, and at the very end of December it presented updated models, already with 2.2 GHz Pentium 4-M. Apparently, the “water test” turned out to be successful for the company, since, according to today’s Nihon Keizai Shimbun, now the company is hatching plans to equip desktops, servers and even… game consoles and audio / video home theater components!
The calculation of the efficiency of such cooling systems, according to the company’s specialists, is based on the fact that the use of water cooling reduces the overall system noise by about 40% (to a level of 30 dB or less), while the efficiency of such systems is almost 60% higher than the usual air systems cooling.
Following laptops, the company’s next mainstream water-cooled devices are expected to be the company’s new blade servers and desktop PCs. Nothing is known about the timing of the appearance of such products.
