Fujitsu and AMD to merge flash memory production?
Fujitsu has confirmed that it is in talks with its flash memory partner AMD to deepen cooperation in this segment of cooperation.
According to The Financial Times, negotiations between Fujitsu and AMD are aimed at a merger of production facilities and a new joint venture for the production of flash memory, while AMD is expected to share in the new joint venture 60%, Fujitsu share the remaining 40%. Presumably, the creation of the joint venture will be officially announced in January 2021.
According to the data of the marketing company Gartner Group, in 2021 Intel occupied the first place in the flash memory market with 25.7% of world production, the second and third places were, respectively, for AMD and Fujitsu. After the merger of the assets of the two companies, the total production volumes of the new enterprise will amount to 23.4%.
So, the traditional partnership between AMD and Fujitsu in the field of flash memory can be improved in the very near future. As you know, back in 1993, the companies created the Fujitsu AMD Semiconductor JV based on Fujitsu’s production facilities, where Fujitsu owns a 50.01% share, AMD – 49.99%.
