Apple discontinues 15-inch iMacs
Apple plans to stop shipping 15-inch flat screens for its computers starting in October, sources close to the company say.
On the one hand, there is a clear desire of the company to stimulate the transition to 17-inch LCD displays, on the other hand, in this way Apple wants to clean up the old stock left over from the times of the rapid development of the industry.
Multiple factors drive 15-inch iMac sales to near-zero sales. This is both a rapid increase in the performance of the PC graphics system, and too high a price.
15-inch iMac production in Taiwan reduced to 20,000 units per month following 17-inch model release. The computers for Apple are produced by Taiwanese Quanta, which assembles, Hon Hai (also known by the Foxconn Electronics trademark), which produces steel rotating holders, and Catcher, which produces hemispherical housings.
These companies cannot complain about the poor income, because assembling an iMac is complex and time consuming, requiring more than 100 operations. But Apple is increasingly pushing its manufacturers to change assembly algorithms in order to be able to lower prices. And, perhaps because of this, Quanta moved all production to China in order to save at least on employee wages.
