IBM teams up with Chartered to develop 90nm and 65nm processes
IBM and Chartered Semiconductor announce strategic alliance to jointly develop chips and technologies and combine manufacturing facilities.
Under the terms of the agreement signed yesterday, the North American IBM Microelectronics and the Singaporean company Chartered will develop technological processes for the production of chips at 90 and 65 nm standards on 300 mm wafers.
The first fruits of the joint development are expected to appear in the third quarter of 2021, with chips for Chartered customers to be produced at IBM factories. After that, the companies plan to publish their updated plans for the future of the 65nm process, but in the meantime, its development is expected to be completed by 2021.
