SmartDisk FirePower hard drives with FireWire 800 support
SmartDisk has announced a line of external FirePower hard drives that support the new FireWire 800 interface – the same standard that Apple announced in some of its new PCs. However, along with IEEE1394b, FirePower hard drives also support the previous version of the standard, IEEE1394a, as well as the USB2.0.
FirePower devices are made on 3.5-inch hard drives with a capacity of up to 200 GB, with an 8 MB buffer and a spindle speed of 7200 rpm. The interface part is made on the OXFW922 chip from the English company Oxford Semiconductor.
The appearance of FirePower hard drives in retail is expected in March 2021.
