3D Consortium to standardize 3D displays
Today on the Sony website there was an official announcement that five Japanese companies – Itochu, NTT DATA, SANYO Electric, Sharp and Sony, have formed a new 3D Consortium working group and will now jointly develop and commercialize three-dimensional (3D) displays and all what is connected with them – interfaces, 3D content and so on.
In addition to the five leading developers, the 3D Consortium already includes 65 companies with regular members – manufacturers of hardware, software, content providers, system integrators, film studios, media companies, etc.
Presumably, the future 3D Consortium standards will be based on Sharp’s developments, which we have already reported many times in our news. Various versions of the final products will be implemented primarily in areas such as CAD, medicine, education, advertising, broadcasting, e-books, etc.
